《学会報告》第32回日本エイズ学会学術集会・総会(Riccardo Pravisani)

It was a great pleasure and honor for me to be asked by Professor Eguchi to hold a symposium at the 32nd Japan AIDS Society Congress in Osaka, discussing on microRNA expression profiling in HIV, HCV liver transplanted patients. MiRNAs are small, non-coding RNAs that control gene expression by regulating mRNA translation and stability in the cytoplasm. By real-time PCR and next generation sequencing analysis on liver biopsies at 6 months after liver transplantation from HCV and HIV/HCV coinfected recipients it was possible to identify the changes of miRNA expression profiles induced by the viruses, resulting in pro-fibrotic, pro-oncogenic pro-inflammatory effects. Such results provided relevant information on the pathogenesis of virus-induced liver damage, particularly in HIV/HCV coinfected patients. It was a meaningful experience and the result of an strong and successful collaboration between the Department of Surgery, Nagasaki University Hospital and the Liver-Kidney Transplant Unit, Udine University Hospital (Italy). The symposium received positive feedback which surely enforce the interest to go ahead in the research. Once more I deeply thank Professor Eguchi and all the staff of the Department of Surgery, with the hope to see you again soon.
